Here at Pier 14 Gift Shop and Fishing Pier we pride ourselves on being different than the multitude of beach shops which offer the same ol' same ol' tacky souvenirs that seem more suitable for a teenagers dorm room than your house.
We also understand that most families are struggling and keep our inventory inexpensive up front so that way you don't get ripped off if you don't have professional bargain skills like you'd need with most other boardwalk shops. No pushy sales people, no ridiculous questions like “how many do you want?” before you get a price... just straight up quality items for inexpensive prices.
For those of you that do like to price shop first? We say “Please do!” as that will ensure us that you'll end up back here later!
We have customers who have been coming back to us year after year for well over 20 years in some cases and each year I hear how this person or that person still has a T-shirt, sweatshirt, or jacket which they bought from us years ago, how it is their favorite, and are shocked at how well it has kept up over the years.
We learned a long time ago that word of mouth is the best advertising and considering that we now seem to get most of the population from Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, NC, NY, CT. VT, MA, WI. IL, LA, IO, MD, RI, Maine and even Alabama and all parts of Canada as of late I'd say we're doing something right! Who doesn't like having friends in every state?
As far as items that we carry we like to change things up yearly in many cases to keep you coming back. This year we're carrying Minnetonka Moccasins, NFL hats, NFL Zubaz pants, T's, Car stickers, TONS jewelry and shark tooth necklaces (from the beachy $7 variety to higher end stuff that’s a bit more), Christian items, the funniest sayings on wooden and metal signs of all sizes that will cover gift getting for just about anyone you know, sunglasses, shorts, specialty soaps hand made in Myrtle Beach, Crystals and Gemstones in the rough or on necklaces, rings for metaphysical purposes or other (including pendulums at prices that will blow you away), gazillions of magnets and key-chains, Myrtle Beach themed gifts and many other things that will keep you smiling.
In total we have well over 5000 different items so come on in, buy yourself a beer, hard iced tea, (or soft drink), listen to the music playing over the sound system (everything from hairbands, classic rock, country, to reggae), relax, and shop the way it was meant to be experienced!
Shopping not your gig? No problem... we've got this covered as well! How about an inexpensive way to spend the day with family (or relax by yourself) that will surely bring memories to last a lifetime? Come fish with us!
Although its true that we have the shortest pier in Myrtle Beach there is a reason that more locals come here to fish than anywhere else (and its more than they know how to use it!). We only have rocks on one side of our pier instead of being surrounded by them like many others in Myrtle Beach. So instead of getting caught up in the rocks all day spending a ton of money in replacing rigs and time tying them back on you'll get to spend that precious time fishing and pulling lunkers off your line! We are known to be the best pier to get flounder off in Myrtle Beach.
Don't have your own rod & reel? No problem.. we rent them and sell them also! First off, unlike fishing from the beach you do NOT need to go get a SC Saltwater license if you’re fishing on Pier 14 as you'll be covered under our license. If you do have your own rod it is $7 for that calendar day (not a 24 hour pass) for one person with one rod. If one person has two rods that only they will be using the second rod will just cost you two bucks extra. Two rod limit per person. If you want to rent a rod/reel it is a total of $15 per person/per rod and you'll need to leave a $20 cash (only) deposit per rod rented... which you'll get back when you return the rod/reel unbroken.
If you need bait we sell frozen shrimp. Squid, or Mullet for $6 per container (½ pound containers in all except finger mullet). We also carry all of the tackle needed for catching fish here. We don't offer all of the bells and whistles that you'd find at the super-stores instead we keep it simple and carry what works here. With 30 years in business here we're assured what does and doesn't work at this location so ask and we'll be glad to help. 99% of the time you'd want to use 20# test line, a 2 drop bottom rig, 2oz pyramid or storm sinker and #4 -2xl shank hooks ( we use and suggest Eagle Claw).
If you're going for flounder then we suggest getting yourself live mud minnows somewhere. We do not sell any live bait (sorry). You can check Garden City Bait and Tackle (843) 651-7183.
Fish that are caught here varies by the season and sometimes day. The best times to fish by rule of thumb are 2 hours before and after high tide and the same for low tide plus sunrise and sunset. Tides change daily and can be found online. The list of fish caught here at one time or another throughout the year are: Flounder, Whiting, Bluefish, Shark, Skates, Pompano, Weakfish, Black Drum, Red Drum, Spanish Mackerel, Spotted Seatrout, Atlantic Spadefish, Ladyfish, Sheepshead, Spot, Northern Puffer, Oyster Toadfish, Dogfish, Ribbon Fish, Lizardfish, Black Sea Bass, Atlantic Croaker, Stingray, and even the occasional Guitarfish, Tarpon and Conch Shell!
We also are a licensed bar so we can sell you beer by the can also! Sorry, you are not allowed to bring any of your own alcohol onto Pier 14 property as it is illegal to do so. All bags and coolers are checked before entering pier. If you just wish to walk on the pier it is $1 per person (kids shorter than our desk are free and it is free if you spend over $10). The walking passes are good for you for the whole day to come and go as you wish (but are not transferable between people) and if you buy a pass and later see that you're about to spend over $10 either in our gift shop, restaurant, or lounge just hand your pass to whomever is ringing you up before-hand and we will deduct the dollar off of your check (pass must be marked with same date as purchase). The dollar goes towards keeping up with the high cost of maintenance since we (like all piers in Myrtle) are privately owned and get no funding/aid by the city/state to help off-set the costs.
So come on down to Pier 14! ...the place where all of the locals bring their visiting relatives to eat, fish, and to find outstanding gifts that won't break the bank!
Locals please show your local* Drivers License for half price fishing passes and/or free pier walks! * (Myrtle Beach, NMB, Socastee, Conway, Surfside, Murrells Inlet, and Garden City ONLY)
